Description
Son of Zebedee and Salome; brother of James. One of the inner three. The 'disciple whom Jesus loved'. Took Mary into his home from the cross. Author of the fourth Gospel, three letters, and (per traditional ascription) Revelation. Lived to old age; tradition places his death in Ephesus ca. AD 100.
