People of the land of the Nile, descended from Mizraim son of Ham. Hosts of Israel during the sojourn; Pharaoh's house is the seat of the second great oppression in scripture. Several Egyptians enter Israelite genealogies, e.g., Hagar, Bithiah daughter of Pharaoh, and the unnamed Egyptian who fathered the blasphemer of Leviticus 24.

The royal tribe of David and the messianic line. Received the largest southern inheritance and gave its name to the southern kingdom after the schism. Returned from exile largely intact and gave its name to the postexilic Jewish people.
