James son of Zebedee

Description

Elder brother of John; with him called 'sons of thunder' (Boanerges). One of the inner three with Peter and John. First apostle martyred — beheaded by Herod Agrippa I ca. AD 44. Distinct from James the brother of Jesus and James son of Alphaeus.
