Jonas (father of Peter)

Description

Father of Simon Peter; named by Jesus when Peter is called 'Simon Bar-Jonah' (Matthew 16:17) and 'Simon son of John' (John 21:15-17). Whether the names Jonah and John reflect the same person under variant Greek/Aramaic spellings or different fathers is debated; the simplest reading takes them as the same.
