Mount Sinai

Mountain where Yahweh appeared to Moses in the burning bush and where the Sinai covenant was given. Identification with Jebel Musa is traditional and disputed; other proposals include Jebel al-Lawz in NW Arabia.

The exact location of Mount Sinai is one of the most-debated geographical questions in scripture; the traditional Jebel Musa identification is followed here as the dominant pilgrimage site since the 4th c. AD.
