Description
Son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul. Lamed in both feet at age five when his nurse fled at the news of Saul's death (2 Samuel 4:4). Hidden in Lo-debar with Machir until David sought him out and restored him to his grandfather's lands and to a place at the king's table for Jonathan's sake.

Notes
Originally Merib-baal in 1 Chronicles; renamed Mephibosheth ('from the mouth of shame') to scrub the Baal element. A second Mephibosheth was Saul's son by Rizpah (2 Samuel 21:8).
