Judas Maccabeus
♂Description
Third son of Mattathias; surnamed Maccabeus ('hammer'). Led the revolt against the Seleucids; cleansed and rededicated the temple in 164 BC, celebrated thereafter as Hanukkah. Killed in battle at Elasa 160 BC.
