Wealthy and blameless man of Uz; the protagonist of the book that bears his name. Lost children and possessions in a single day; bore the loss with worship though provoked by his wife and contended fiercely with his three friends. Restored by Yahweh after speaking 'what is right.' Cited by Ezekiel and James as paradigm of righteousness and patience.
