Son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah; called by Elijah from the plow. Received a double portion of Elijah's spirit. Performed sixteen recorded miracles, twice as many as Elijah. Active under five Israelite kings (Joram through Joash). Died of illness; even his bones raised the dead.
