Description

Deputy left in charge at Antioch by Antiochus IV; persuaded by Menelaus, he treacherously murdered Onias III at Daphne. Antiochus, on returning, stripped him of his purple, paraded him through the city, and executed him on the spot of his crime (2 Maccabees 4:30-38).
